On December 8, the Cardano Foundation's X account was hacked by a threat actor who was promoting a fake token called "ADAsol" and spreading false information about Cardano Foundation stopping support for ADA due to a lawsuit from the SEC.
Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson acknowledged the breach on social media, revealing that the fraudulent ADAsol token managed to generate around $500,000 in trading activity before plummeting by 99% in value.
The post about the ADAsol scam and the warning of a possible lawsuit from the SEC have both been taken down as of now.
The Cardano Foundation is currently addressing the issue with the compromised account, and there have been no other impacts on the Cardano ecosystem from the breach. In November 2024, there was a situation where someone hacked into rapper Wiz Khalifa's X account to promote a fake celebrity memecoin named WIZ. This token was falsely advertised as being associated with the rapper, but in reality, it had no connection to Khalifa at all.
